WHAT IS A FACELIFT?

A facelift is a cosmetic procedure to rejuvenate the face. Excess skin is removed and the remaining facial tissues are carefully reshaped so that you look years younger. We offer both traditional facelifts and the SLUPlift™, our custom created mini-facelift. Call our offices to learn more.

WILL I HAVE SCARRING AFTER MY FACELIFT?

A facelift is a surgical procedure and does require incisions but, with a highly skilled surgeon like Dr. Slupchynskyj and the proper pre/post-surgical care, visible scarring can be drastically reduced and even eliminated. We’ll work with you prior to surgery to identify common causes of facelift scarring and to reduce your risk of experiencing visible scars.

Stopping certain medications and avoiding cigarette smoke before and after your facelift can reduce some occurrence of scarring. Some medical conditions (including collagen vascular disease and some blood disorders) may increase your chances of visible scarring.

During your consultation, Dr. Slupchynskyj will discuss your medical history to identify any risk factors for scarring. After discussing your medical history and examining your skin, he’ll give you a better idea of how much scarring to expect after your facelift.

A SKILLED SURGEON CAN REDUCE THE OCCURRENCE OF FACELIFT SCARRING

Your medical history and the care you give your skin before and after your facelift can have a big impact on the amount of scarring you’ll experience, but YOU aren’t the only factor to consider. Your surgeon can take certain steps to reduce scarring and ensure stunning, natural looking facelift results. Choose a highly skilled surgeon with extensive experience performing facelift surgeries.

Careful incision placement, double layered suturing, and SMAS facelift technique can reduce your risk of scarring. You surgeon can also use topical treatments after surgery to aid healing and decrease scarring. If scarring does occur, scar revision surgery can be used to reduce the appearance of scarring. Dr. Slupchynskyj often performs scar revision surgery on patients who have used another surgeon for their initial facelift.

THE SLUPLIFT™– LESS SCARRING, BEAUTIFUL RESULTS

Our SLUPlift™ patients are often elated at their lifted and rejuvenated appearance. Even better, they can’t believe their lack of scarring. The SLUPlift™ employs a pre-auricular incision technique that reduces incision size and allows for hidden placement. In his book, Why Less Is More, Dr. Slupchynskyj explains, “Aesthetically speaking, due to the pre-auricular placement of the smaller incisions, any scarring is typically imperceptible and those who undergo SLUPlift™ do not experience the hair loss that sometimes accompany other Facelift techniques. The longer incision used in most Traditional Facelift procedures begins at the hairline near the temples, moves down around the ear and stops at the lower scalp. This type of incision can cause the appearance of unflattering, visible scars and hair loss near the incision sites.”

If you’re worried about scarring but are interested in a facelift, schedule a consultation with Dr. Slupchynskyj to learn about your options. The right surgeon and careful pre/post-surgical care can dramatically reduce or eliminate scarring after a facelift.
