Whatever their heritage, patients inquiring about Ethnic Rhinoplasty just want a nose that’s more proportional to the rest of their facial features. Like any patient, they are concerned with the size, shape, or function of their nose. Ethnic Rhinoplasty is specialized procedures which Dr. Slupchynskyj utilize to re-shape the patient’s nose for improved aesthetics.
The ethnic nose includes Asian, Hispanic, and African-American noses, exhibiting physical differences which encompass facial structure and skin color variances. These variances include the thickness of the skin, the configurations of facial muscles, and the contours of the face.
Your nose is a part of your heritage, and, like your hair and skin color, it displays your ethnic background; however, the details of your nose: structure, shape, and size are unique to you and your anatomy. It defines your unique appearance and therefore is important in how people see you.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty requires a high level of skill and expertise because the surgeon needs to have a thorough understanding of the unique facial aesthetics that different groups want. If you want a more refined nose that still fits with your unique facial characteristics, Dr. Slupchynskyj has the experience and skill to achieve the outcome you desire.
Why Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Improved appearance: Ethnic Rhinoplasty alters your nose in mere millimeters, but it can change your facial appearance dramatically. If you’re not satisfied with your nose presence, Ethnic Rhinoplasty can create harmony and balance between your nose and other facial features without changing your natural look.
Improved function: While your nose may look fine, Dr. Slupchynskyj has many patients who look to Nose Surgery to treat difficulties with breathing; issues which could be instigated or intensified by defects inside the nose.
Results Desired from Ethnic Rhinoplasty
A nose which functions properly: Perhaps physical trauma has affected the way you breathe. Many patients come to us looking for improved breathing because, either from birth or trauma, the nasal passage does not perform as it should. Ethnic Rhinoplasty is designed to enhance breathing while maintaining or improving your facial appearance.
A nose that fits: Our patients come to us because their nose does not fit their face. It is either too large, too small, too thick, has an extreme hump, or is crooked. Ethnic Rhinoplasty can create balance and symmetry to your nose and your other facial features.
A nose that doesn’t change how you look: Yes, Ethnic Rhinoplasty is designed to improve your nose presence, but not to make you look like someone else. Dr. Slupchynskyj understands this and delivers a nose which displays a better version of you.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty for African-Americans
African-American patients have unique concerns when it comes to Ethnic Rhinoplasty; many African-American patients possess a wide, low nasal dorsum (bridge of the nose) with wide, flaring nostrils. They also tend to have additional fatty tissue on the tip of the nose as well as thinner cartilage in the tip of the nose.
Dr. Slupchynskyj’s main goals are to improve the aesthetic beauty and functional operation of the nose while preserving the ethnic and personal qualities of the patient.
One of the more popular operations for African-American patients is to elevate or augment the nasal bridge. This technique will build up the nasal bridge, which will result in a nose which is less flat and wide. When building up the bridge of the nose, natural or specially-made artificial implants are often used. Dr. Slupchynskyj created and patented the SLUPimplant™, a customizable type of implant to give patients the ideal bridge height and structural support.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty for Hispanic and Latino Patients
Our patients with Hispanic or Latino origins have a blend of Native American and European features which provide them a different facial structure than those of the African-American and Northern European patient.
These patients typically have short, thin alar cartilages (the cartilage on the tip of the nose). These smaller cartilages are evident in the shorter angle between the columella (bottom of the nose) and upper lip.
Their nostrils also have a wide base and short angle, making them more circular rather than an oval contour as seen in most ethnicities. Hispanic patients also display a lower radix (the upmost part of the nose where the bridge of the nose meets the forehead), a short columella, and a convex (protruding) nasal bridge. Dr. Slupchynskyj can reshape these features for improved aesthetics while maintaining the nose’s ability to breathe.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty for Asian Patients
The average Asian patient has a less prominent bridge of the nose with a wider and less angular nasal tip. They often have more soft tissue in the nasal tip than other ethnicities. The Asian nose has thicker skin and thinner cartilage than that of the average Caucasian patient. This trait can make resection more difficult.
As with every Ethnic Rhinoplasty patient, the success of the procedure will depend on altering the shape of the nose into more attractive proportions while preserving the nose’s structure to allow the patient to breathe comfortably and efficiently.
Dr. Slupchynskyj has extensive experience in understanding the structural differences among various ethnic groups. Even with those in mind, Dr. Slupchynskyj can also preserve the beauty and function of their patient’s nose.
