Neck Lift

Elevated and firm contours are the traits of an overall youthful facial appearance. The neck should be easily distinguished from the jawline, presenting an elegant curve and helping to define your profile. If you have noticed the development of excess skin or fat at the neck, board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Oleh Slupchynskyj provides treatment to help your neck look toned and slender. The outcome is a smooth, natural neckline which reveals no signs of alteration.

Neck Lift Plastic Surgery

Aging initially appears in the facial area and most often in the neck. The contours of the neck lose their youthful definition and firmness and can develop what patients refer to as a “turkey waddle.” The platysma muscle, which runs from the lower jaw area to the collarbone, sags and appears almost cord like due to contraction and aging. An otherwise youthful face is aged dramatically in this case and often makes one feel self-conscious and certainly older than they feel. Dr. Slupchynskyj’s neck lift technique reverses these aesthetic issues and restores youthful neck contours, with smooth, firm skin.

What is a Neck Lift?

Neck lift surgery, also known as platysmaplasty, is often performed in conjunction with neck liposuction and facelift surgery to create optimum results in correcting the aging neck and face. Neck lift surgery is an excellent solution for those wanting to rejuvenate the neck and jawline, apart from any cosmetic facial procedures. Dr. Slupchynskyj creates small incisions in the natural creases under the chin and below the earlobes, making them inconspicuous, almost invisible. Sections of excess skin are trimmed, before being lifted into place and sutured. He then removes a section of fat and muscle and sutures the ends together at the mid-anterior (front) section of the neck. The skin can be brought together under or behind the ear to firm the neck contour.

What are the Benefits of a Neck Lift?

Is a Neck Lift Right for Me?

As always, good health and realistic expectations are necessary for a successful result in any surgical procedure. Neck lift surgery is an excellent option if you have loose, excess skin and fat in the neck area, or jowls. During your consultation, Dr. Slupchynskyj will evaluate your appearance and review the best options to achieve your desired result, including the amount of skin, muscle, and fat that should be removed and tightened. The technique, precautions, and any risks which may affect surgical outcome will be discussed.

Your Neck Lift Consultation

Any successful procedure takes planning. Like an artist who looks to a canvas, Dr. Slupchynskyj reviews your facial frame to study your traits like facial structure, skin quality, and volume. Using advanced technology, he can determine and reveal the outcome of your customized treatment plan.

He will map out a surgical plan for you, and with the help of computer imaging, be able to show you the expected outcome. This image will make you realize your aesthetic issues can be corrected.

As a staff, it is our goal to personalize your surgical experience, exceeding your expectations and giving you a good sense of what you can expect, including predicted aesthetic outcomes of your procedure.

Why a Neck Lift?

Young skin tissue tends to be smooth and tight, supported by healthy, well-distributed fat and collagen. With age, fat changes position and collagen production slows. Fat cells collect in pockets which create bulges resistant to a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Additionally, muscles grow lax with age and combined with these other conditions, create a neck which looks full and loose.

Incisions used for a neck lift are usually under the chin and around the ear, giving Dr. Slupchynskyj access to the underlying tissue. Here, he tightens the muscles and removes excess skin and fat as necessary. After reshaping, the skin is re-draped and results in a tighter, sleeker contour.

What can I Expect During and Immediately Following My Neck Lift Surgery Procedure?

Dr. Slupchynskyj performs a neck lift as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia and light sedation. The procedure lasts one to two hours, unless combined with other aesthetic treatments. It is normal to experience a degree of swelling and possible bruising from seven to ten days after surgery. During recovery, you will wear a compression garment for several days, which helps to improve blood circulation, minimize swelling, and provide support to the neck.

Are there any Risks to Neck Lift Surgery? What is My Recovery Time?

Dr. Slupchynskyj will advise you to avoid any strenuous activity like lifting, straining and bending until he is confident your healing is complete. Dr. Slupchynskyj will also advise when you can return to normal activity, which for most patients, is within two weeks after their neck lift. Even though swelling takes a few weeks to subside, you should start to see the results within seven days after surgery.

How Long do the Results of Neck Lift Surgery Last?

The effects of your necklift surgery typically last from five to ten years depending upon your age and health.
