There is a new procedure —Kybella®—available at Aesthetic Institute of New York & New Jersey that may prove to be the best non-surgical procedure to eliminate fat and possibly tighten skin under the chin and in the neck area. Dr. Slupchynskyj believes results of the fat reduction procedure are extremely impressive, as they appear to not only melt fat in the areas treated, but also slightly contract the tissues underneath, resulting in skin tightening. There is no convalescent downtime, as there is with surgery; however, patients may experience some swelling and redness in the treated areas.

Kybella® Treatment for Submental Fat

Kybella® has just received FDA approval for submental fat reduction, which commonly presents as a double chin. It is a proprietary compilation of a purified synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that assists in dietary fat breakdown. Kybella® is the first-in-class submental contouring injectable drug.

Kybella® is identical to the deoxycholic acid that is produced in the body. Deoxycholic acid produced in the body enables the body to absorb fats. Kybella® is a cytolytic drug, which when injected into tissue physically eradicates the cell membrane. When properly injected into submental fat, the drug eradicates fat cells; however, it can also eradicate other types of cells, such as skin cells, if it is inadvertently injected into the skin.

Kythera Kybella® Non-Surgical Facelift

Although a Non-Surgical Facelift can refine what you’ve lost with age, it can’t correct what you may have gained: fat under the chin, which can cause an undefined chin or unflattering neck, and currently has only surgical treatment options. Kybella® is a cutting-edge, Non-Surgical Facelift procedure that reduces fat under the chin. Kythera Kybella® decreases jawline, chin and neck fullness.

Subdermal Contouring Procedure to Enhance Facial Beauty

The submental region, or the area under the chin, affects facial harmony, balance and overall appearance. An undesirable submental profile is usually defined by both the distribution of fat and loose or sagging skin under the chin, and can negatively influence self-esteem. This presence of fat under the chin, known as a double chin, can be influenced by multiple factors, such as aging and genetics, and often cannot be altered by diet and exercise. Although the submental region, or area under the chin, is visually important to patients, it is often undertreated.

An Overlooked Treatment Option in Facial Aesthetics

Kybella® NYC

Available facial injectable products, specifically botulinum toxins and dermal fillers, mainly concentrate on the aesthetic rejuvenation of the upper and mid-face and do not sufficiently treat the submental region. Kybella® is the only FDA-approved injectable drug to reduce fat under the chin. Kybella® is the sole submental contouring injectable drug and may help address this neglected need in facial aesthetics. It is the most innovative procedure in facial rejuvenation that does not require surgery. Kybella® has been approved by the FDA for the reduction of submental fat, which commonly presents as double chin.

Kybella® Mechanism of Action

Treatment with Kybella® contours the area under the chin by destroying fat cells, while leaving surrounding tissue unaltered. The targeted destruction of fat cells is followed by a natural healing reaction that promotes cellular debris removal. This reaction could also incorporate new collagen formation, a process referred to as neocollagenesis, in the treatment area.

Kybella® Administration

Kybella® is administered by injections into the fat under the chin over a series of treatments scheduled no less than one month apart. A treatment regimen with Kybella® is customized to the desired outcome of the patient and treating physician. During clinical trials, Kybella® was administered for up to four or six treatment visits, based on the amount and volume of the fat under the chin. When injected, Kybella® obliterates targeted fat cells, and is then quickly removed from the injection site.

Kybella® is administered as an injection into the fat tissue in the submental area. Patients may receive up to 50 injections during a single treatment, with up to six single treatments administered no less than one month apart. Kybella® is being provided in single patient use vials and should not be diluted or mixed with any other compounds.

Kybella® Side Effects

Kybella® can cause serious side effects, including nerve injury in the jaw that can result in an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness, and trouble swallowing. The most common side effects of Kybella® include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area.

Kybella® should not be used outside of the submental region, and it should not be used if there is an infection at the injection site. Caution should also be used in patients who have had prior surgical or aesthetic treatment of the submental region.

Kybella® is being distributed in a dispensing pack that has a unique hologram on the vial label. If there is no hologram, do not use the product.
