Facelift Plastic Surgery (Rhytidectomy)
Dr. Slupchynskyj is a Facelift Surgeon patients have trusted for years to help them attain their aesthetic goals. He believes that although growing older is inevitable, aging is optional. As time goes by, gravity takes its toll on our skin, which begins to loosen on the face and neck. The fat pads and amount of fat underneath our skin diminishes over time, which only increases our skin’s sagging appearance. Cheeks droop. The line of our jaw starts to become less defined and turns into jowls. You may experience a loosening of the platysma muscles, which extend from our checks down through the neck area, otherwise known as “turkey waddle.” Rhytidectomy, better known as a Facelift, can reverse the clock by at least 10 years and is still one of the most popular and in demand procedures today, which makes aging optional.
What is Rhytidectomy?
Early Facelifts tended to have a “wind tunnel” appearance of the face. These days this does not have to be the final outcome. If a facelift is performed correctly, the outcome should be a natural, refreshed beauty that may or may not have existed before, but nonetheless the results should not appear overdone.
Some physicians try to move the nasal furrows and lift up the corners of the lips by pulling sideways. This often results in a pulled, tight, surgical look. The most important aspect of Dr. Slupchynskyj’s technique is that it lifts the cheek tissue vertically, straight up. This reverses the effects of gravity, which pulls straight down. A much more natural, refreshed and youthful appearance is the result.
Sometimes contouring of the face is needed to help rejuvenate the aging appearance. This can include Nasal Resculpting, Cheek Implants, Chin Implant, Lip Enhancement, and other non-surgical enhancements. Many times a facelift is considered one part of complete facial rejuvenation. An Endoscopic Browlift, Midfacelift, Cheek Lift, Eyelid Lift and Skin Resurfacing may also be considered as part of complete facial rejuvenation.

Is Facelift Surgery Right for me?
First, good health and realistic expectations are necessary for any successful result in Cosmetic Surgery. There is no ideal Facelift; the goal is to improve the overall facial appearance. A Facelift treats sagging skin in and around the lower third of the face, corrects wrinkling, jowling, and restores the youthful contours of your face. During your consultation, Dr. Slupchynskyj will closely examine your facial features, structure and thoroughly describe what you can expect from Facelift Surgery. Skin type, skin elasticity, individual healing, bone structure, as well as a realistic attitude will also be discussed with Dr. Slupchynskyj. A thorough medical evaluation will be completed and risks, which may affect surgical outcome, will be discussed in depth. Before deciding on a Facelift, you should discuss with Dr. Slupchynskyj whether the overall effect will be more successful if additional changes are made in the neck or eye areas through other facial surgery procedures such as a Neck Lift and Blepharoplasty. If several flaws need correction, multiple procedures may be necessary.
What I can expect during my Facelift Surgery Procedure:
The Facelift procedure is performed with a combination of mild sedatives, local anesthesia, and a mild intravenous anesthesia, so you will experience little discomfort. Dr. Slupchynskyj begins Facelift Surgery with an incision in the area of the temple hair, just above and in front of the ear, and then continues around the lobe, circling the ear before returning to the point of origin in the scalp. The skin is raised outward before Dr. Slupchynskyj repositions and tightens the underlying muscle (SMAS) and connective tissue. Some fat may be removed, as well as excess skin. For men, the incision is aligned to accommodate the natural beard lines. In all cases, the incision is placed where it will fall in a natural crease of the skin for camouflage. After trimming the excess skin, Dr. Slupchynskyj closes the incisions with fine sutures and/or metal clips, which permit surgery without shaving hair from the incision site. Depending on the extent of the surgery, the process can take from two to four hours.
What can I expect after my Facelift Surgery Procedure?
Even though most patients experience very little pain after surgery, Dr. Slupchynskyj will still prescribe medication. Some degree of swelling and bruising is unavoidable, and Dr. Slupchynskyj may instruct you to use cold compresses to keep swelling to a minimum. If a dressing has been applied immediately following surgery, it will be removed within one to two days. Dr. Slupchynskyj will also instruct you to keep your head elevated when lying down, and to avoid as much activity as possible. In some cases, a drainage tube may have been inserted during surgery. This will be removed on the first or second day after surgery. All sutures and staples are usually removed within five to 10 days following surgery. Recovery usually takes two to three weeks. Scars are usually not noticeable after enough time has passed for them to mature. In any case, they are easily disguised in natural skin creases, by the hair. Relaxation of tissues will occur over the first few weeks
Are there any risks to Facelift Surgery? What is my Recovery Time?
Dr. Slupchynskyj will advise you to avoid any strenuous activity, which includes but is not limited to lifting; straining and bending until he is confident you are healed. Dr. Slupchynskyj will also advise when you can return to normal activity, which for most patients, is within two weeks post surgery. After surgery, you may experience some bruising and swelling, which is normal, temporary numbness around the ear lobe, and temporary weakness in the lip area. Individual risks will be examined prior to surgery, especially those related to medical situations such as high blood pressure, a tendency to scar, smoking, and any deficiency in blood clotting.
How long do the Results of a Facelift last?
Facelift Surgery results can last at least 10 years and more depending upon your age, health and lifestyle.
