The media is inundated with close-ups of celebrity faces, bodies and more often than not, harsh criticisms about their appearance. Anyone who is in the spotlight is most likely under some sort of pressure to look their best at all times since Hollywood does not seem forgiving to anyone with their first wrinkle or gray hair. This may explain why some celebrities choosing to undergo plastic surgery procedures, extensive at times, in an attempt to look thinner, younger. But what happens when plastic surgery is taken to the extreme? What happens when too much is done when only subtle changes would have done a better job at achieving the desired results?
One of most crucial steps towards getting any cosmetic surgery is selecting the right plastic surgeon. Some dermatologists or surgeons may be quite eager to offer their services, which may or may not help that celebrity look any better. After all, no one said "no" to Michael Jackson. Many celebrities end up with less than desirable results due to this scenario, as well as the surgeon's lack of qualifications and surgical expertise to perform the surgery.
The first person that might come to mind is Michael Jackson. Over the years we watched as Michael Jackson's face changed over and over – mostly and unfortunately in an unattractive way, specifically with his nose. Unfortunately, there are many people who do not believe that "less is more", and end up looking not nearly as good as they would have if less invasive techniques were used.
Joan Van Ark, for example, has been noted as having much more than unflattering results from facial plastic surgery. Van Ark became famous in the 80s starring in the daytime soap, "Knots Landing".
Ms. Van Ark's nose looks obviously "done" in the typical 1980's Rhinoplasty fashion: scooped out nasal bridge and over-resected tip cartilages. The results of her nose surgery do not look natural and can lead to complications like nasal obstruction and nasal valve collapse. She also looks "over-injected" and most likely had multiple sessions with either silicone or fat, both, which have longevity. Whether silicone or fat, the non-surgical filler unfortunately makes her face look distorted and unnatural, especially around the mouth area. The is also evidence of "Botoxation" (too much Botox). Her eyebrow shape and position appear Spock-like. Although for the most part she still looks good for her age despite the overgenerous filling in the mouth and cheek area. Dr. Slupchynskyj believes there comes a point in ones aging face that less is more. Joan would have faired better with a little less Botox and filler. After all, there is a sexiness to having some wrinkles and it just looks better. In spite of her somewhat plastic appearance, she is still an attractive woman.
Another celebrity and famous Italian fashion designer, Donatella Versace, has had facial plastic surgery over the years.
It appears that Donatella has experienced a few failed nose jobs. These rhinoplasty surgeries were most likely in an attempt to refine an otherwise bulbous nasal tip as well as refine the nasal bridge. The wrong nasal implant was most likely used and her unflattering nasal tip is a result of poor tip surgery. She also exhibits the obvious over-filler syndrome "filleration" and Botoxation. A moderate lip augmentation and a little less Botox in the forehead would have produced a more natural look. Dr. Slupchynskyj would also suggest a conservative and customized facelift, such as the Sluplift mini facelift, to remedy her Platysmal banding on her neck (see last photo).
At 78 years old, Joan Rivers, a well-known TV personality, is quite open about her cosmetic surgeries.
Joan Rivers did well with multiple nips and tucks and is not bashful about her cosmetic consumption. However, as the nips and tucks where running out of skin to nip and tuck, fillers were next. Joan Rivers also a victim of "filleration". As the face ages, the skin droops, and jowling appears. Loss of facial fat or "facial atrophy" is also a result of aging. Fat fillers have become a popular "non-surgical" alternative to long term filling. In Joan's case, it is apparent that she is over-filled (at least in these photos). It is also apparent that she has had several Rhinoplasty surgeries as her nostrils and nasal tip look quite pinched and unnatural.
Meg Ryan, who is going on 52, looks natural.
Unless there are other photos, Meg Ryan looks great for her age. If she had anything done, it is hard to tell. She may have had some Botox and fillers but nothing obvious – the results look natural here. Her good looks have much to do with good genes coupled with healthy lifestyle. Commonly underestimated, some of us just have "good looks" gene. Dr. Slupchynskyj believes Meg should remain conservative with any cosmetic surgery.
At 59, actor Mickey Rourke has been in the public eye since the 80s. He also has been criticized for dramatic or excessive cosmetic facial surgery.
Mickey Rourke was a good-looking man. Cosmetic facial plastic surgery in men can be tricky especially with facelifting surgery. Mickey had a Lower Face and Neck Lift and it looks obvious for several reasons. First, he developed "pixie ears", known as Pixie Ear Deformity, which is pulling down of the ear lobe. Second, while his doctor attempted to rejuvenate the lower part of his face, the upper third was not addressed. There is an obvious imbalance. His brows are drooping and his eyes appear smaller. This pulling of the lower face contributes to his "wind tunnel look" in the lower third of his face. Facelift incisions in male facelift surgery are difficult for surgeons to hide in a man with short or receding hairline.
Facial plastic surgery may have been suggested to him for the purpose of jump-starting his career. Ironically, his plastic surgery probably had nothing to do with his winning an Academy Award in 2009. Dr. Slupchynskyj believes had he done nothing at all, he would age quite well.
Kenny Rodgers looks like he had a Brow lift, Upper Eyelid Lift, and a Facelift. What makes him look a little funny are his upper eyelids. He appears to suffer from "ptosis of the upper eyelid" (drooping of the upper lid over the pupil).
While these people are considered celebrities, the truth is they are just like us – normal, hard working people who want to look and feel their best at various stages in life. Learning from the mistakes of these celebrities, we can make better choices in our own lives. We have the option to choose more subtle, less invasive rejuvenation techniques and procedures, like the SLUPlift or nonsurgical facelifts. These minimally invasive procedures have a much faster recovery time, with faster results that look and feel natural. It's important to keep in mind that if you're considering any cosmetic procedure, a little goes a long way. Small, subtle changes can yield excellent results. Patients of Dr. Slupchynskyj usually request results, which make them, look refreshed – themselves only better. You can view some of these satisfied patients in before and after photos.
