The Importance of Holistic Health on Cosmetic Surgery Success

While it’s easy to view your body one part at a time, it’s important to remember that each part is intricately connected to the whole. Your holistic health will have a direct impact on the recovery time and the outcome of your upcoming Cosmetic Surgery. Emotional well-being, lifestyle choices and nutrition all play a role in a complication-free procedure, quick recovery, and minimal scarring – all of which are important to achieve the vibrant and youthful glow you desire.

Here are tips on how to look and feel your best before, during, and after your Cosmetic Surgery.

  1. Have a positive attitude. Physical appearance can be enhanced using cosmetic procedures, but a radiant inner glow is something onlyyou have control over. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people, and be grateful for the simple things in life. Keep your chin up through the recovery process. Don’t feel like whiling away the recovery time at home? Some of our patients use this opportunity to relax in a New York hotel, pampering themselves with room service all week long!
  2. Make smart lifestyle choices. If you smoke, it’s imperative that you quit for the two weeks before and after your surgery. Smoking inhibits circulation, which is key to a healthy surgery and recovery. Smoking immediately after surgery can cause the tissue around your incisions to die, which will noticeably effect the outcome. Alcohol is a blood thinner, so limiting your alcohol consumption will help your blood to clot normally, reducing the chance of complications.
  3. Avoid vitamin E and ibuprofen. Vitamin E and ibuprofen are also blood thinners, which makes it difficult to stem the flow of blood when the doctor is making incisions.
  4. Take Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a wonder supplement; it boost the immune system and reduces swelling and bruising. It is a powerful antioxidant, inhibits cancer growth, and has additional anti-aging benefits. We recommend that our clients take 3000 mg per day. These should be divided into three 1000 mg. doses, taken morning, afternoon, and night. While you can use it for the period before and after your surgery, there’s no reason why this shouldn’t become a regular part of your dietary supplementation. Vitamin C is water soluble, so your body eliminates what you don’t need.
  5. Homeopathic Arnica. Arnica is a plant in the sunflower family. One of the species. Arnica montana contains a chemical called helenalin, which is a natural anti-inflammatory, especially adept at reducing the effects of bruising. Arnica has been used as a homeopathic remedy since the 1500s. Your local health food store will have Arnica tablets in their homeopathic section. Homeopathic Arnica can also be purchased online. Take it orally, as directed, for the first two weeks or so after your cosmetic procedure to reduce swelling and minimize bruising.
  6. Eat a well-balanced diet. A well-balanced diet is always a good thing, but it’s especially important when your body is healing. For enhanced post-surgical benefits, focus on eating an anti-inflammatory diet, which will keep swelling and bruising in check, and will boost your immune system. Many of our clients find they maintain an anti-inflammatory diet long after their Cosmetic Surgery because it can also reduce food sensitivities, increase energy levels, and help to improve joint pain. Reduce your intake of processed foods and sugars, and focus on whole foods, like fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, and lean proteins.

By taking a holistic approach to your health, you will have the energy and vitality to enjoy the benefits of your Cosmetic Surgery procedure. For more information about pre and post-operative care, or to learn more about your Cosmetic Surgery options, contact the office of Dr. Oleh Slupchynskyj.
